Shelter by the Shore

Project

Tucked into a quiet cove beside a wooded island, this little jewel of a boathouse, approved by the Township, brings charm and function to a treasured Canadian island retreat. Designed with a two-story structure, the 650-square-foot upper level provides a serene living space with two bedrooms and sweeping views in every direction. Generous decking surrounds the exterior, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor experience perfect for enjoying the Muskoka summers. Large windows invite natural light into both the living quarters and the boathouse below, enhancing the connection to the landscape. A touch of New Orleans flair—reflecting the client’s Southern roots—is introduced through the use of graceful exterior copper lanterns, adding character and elegance to the design. Blending regional sensibility with personal heritage, this boathouse is a true shelter by the shore.
