In the heart of the Garden District, our project brought new life into a mansion’s rear portion, blending the elegance of its traditional heritage with a relaxed ambiance. Our strategy was to marry the formal forward portions of the historic three-story house with a more relaxed rear portion that would be used for entertaining. A new elevator, discreetly integrated within the side entry, symbolizes this shift in tone. The heart of this transformation is a new kitchen, designed for casual entertaining and equipped with modern amenities including a Sub-Zero refrigerator, Wolf range and a hidden corner pantry. Expansive custom-milled windows with insulated, laminated glass panes ensure acoustic privacy while inviting natural light. We custom-designed a bar tucked around the corner from a grand fireplace, rustic beams and columns, enhance the space’s warmth. Reclaimed warehouse wood flooring and a meticulously rebuilt rear staircase add layers of history and texture. Custom light fixtures and Bevolo gas lanterns on the back porch subtly nod to tradition, marrying the old with the new in a space designed for modern living.
